I suck at making phone calls, and your girl is too socially awkward to knock doors. So, one way I’m supporting the fight for our democracy is by making these one-of-a-kind pins. Forty percent (40%) of proceeds go to the Harris Walz campaign—ActBlue receipts will be sent to you post-purchase. Once these pins are gone, they’re gone—and I’ll be on to the next design, which will also be in support of this incredible ticket. My summer art project was to make the most goopy, glittery, and gaudy jewelry I could dream of. I’m calling this collection “hearts on fire” — because remember those nauseating diamond commercials from the early aughts? iykyk… And also, SO many hearts! Anyhoo I’ve been pouring hours into each of these fussy little pendants, and I’m excited to share the love. I’ve been taking a break from in-person markets this year (your girl is overstimulated), but you can find these on my webs!te. I’ve started putting some of these cuties up.
Okay okay, enough of my awkward rambling. Here are the straight details on my brand new Cyanotype class at the @kalamazooinstituteofarts / @kia_kazooartsphoto!!! I think I do my best work when I allow my inner fussbudget take the reins—this is some of the most detail-intense work I’ve done in the studio in a looong time and boy do I get lost in it. I designed and laser cut these little broken heart beauties and mounted them on bolo tie slides, intended for the most rootin tootin of times. The ties are made with reflective and neon nylon paracord, all hand braided by yours truly. All the little finishing details on each one makes my heart glow.

In all seriousness, I’m relearning how to prioritize my enjoyment in my art making process by letting myself dive into ideas I’ve usually eschewed because they weren’t “serious” or “academic” enough. These necklace and bolo tie pendants have been a nice segue for me into the glam, cute, and fun — all of which *are* actually pretty serious if you think about it 💅🏼🐰✨Anyhoo, these are works in progress, so I’m excited to see where they lead me next.
It’s a little late to say this, but I’m taking the year off from vending and events, but what the hey. Better than never! I want to spend this year seeing new things, trying new things, and surprising myself. In my experience, the hustle of vending on top of a full time day job can suck the living creative soul out of me and I end up making the same thing over and over and over. I got a bit bored! So I’m nurturing new ideas and some more travel plans. After my roadtrip to the Southwest last month, I came home recharged both spiritually and artistically. I’m excited for what’s yet to come out of it. Anyhoo, here’s a peak at my work table this evening!

What will become of this place? It is uncertain. There are ‘for lease’ signs up on the property. A revitalized Lisa Frank factory churning out all our favorite rainbow gear might not be in the cards. But I still collect LF, and wow—incredible to finally see where it all began. My 7 year old self is hugging me right now somewhere in time.
